About the Artist
I am a Vermont-based jeweller, inspired by the raw beauty of nature and the unpredictability of molten metal. My travels across the world have deepened my understanding of form, impermanence, and the balance between chaos and structure. These experiences have inspired my core concepts, and reinforced my understanding of a fundamental truth of nature—that no two forms are ever truly identical. This is reflected in my jewelry, where each piece is shaped by the same interplay of chance and time, capturing the individuality found across the natural world.
My jewelry is a study of the infinite diversity and uniqueness of our world—its landscapes, cultures, and the ever-shifting forms that shape them. Through both traditional fabrication and experimental processes, I create pieces that explore contrast, texture, and the tension between control and spontaneity. Whether shaped by hand or by fire, each piece is grounded in natural irregularity and intentional design.
Casting Organic Form
Control and chaos coexist to create meaning and beauty. My work focuses on this tension, the unpredictable flow of molten metal meets the deliberate spaces of form, balancing a reflection of the natural world, where structure arises from disorder, and every moment carries the potential for transformation.
The void between matter, the absence, the negative space, holds as much significance as the form itself. These voids create unpredictable structure and dimension within the flow of the molten metal, highlighting the interplay between presence and absence, and revealing the beauty in imperfection. In my jewelry, negative space is not empty; it is an essential part of the composition and process, a silent narrative that mirrors the structured chaos and imperfect beauty of our world.
Using a distinctive, experimental casting method, I work with molten silver and bronze, allowing these metals to take shape within organic textures, capturing negative space and solidifying fleeting moments into metal. Shaped by chance and material interaction, these raw, sculptural elements are lightly refined and composed with geometric forms, hand fabricated metalwork, and precisely placed stones. The gemstones, formed over millennia with unparalleled precision, contrast the rapid, unpredictable motion of molten metal, enhancing the dialogue between organic fluidity and intentional composition.
Each piece is inherently one of a kind, shaped by a process that mirrors fractal imperfection and fundamental patterns of natural complexity. This interplay of chaos and order ensures every piece holds a distinct presence, a sculptural fragment of nature's infinite variation, frozen in metal.
My Philosophy behind Imperfection
In nature, imperfection is not something to be fixed; it’s an inherent part of the beauty that surrounds us. My jewelry honors the unpredictable and fluid nature of life, where every element, from texture to form, carries its own meaning. Each piece captures the raw essence of a moment, embracing imperfections that are both natural and profound. By forging these fleeting instances into metal, I create wearable art that celebrates the beauty found in life’s unpredictable course.
This understanding of imperfection also defines the uniqueness of each piece. Shaped by chance and material interaction, no two pieces can ever be replicated. Through this process, I aim to create more than an accessory—I create an enduring connection between the wearer and nature’s infinite variations, capturing the fluidity and permanence of the world we live in.
